Ok, so I'm sitting here in my nice warm office and it's a whopping 28 degrees outside!! I've got 3 kids of my own and I know that they go a bit bananas being couped up inside. We all do. So what can you do to help your kids and yourself not go crazy??? How about a little exercise? I know- No one wants to think about exercise. But, it can help. I thought about making a list of all the different things you could do, but when I googled it I found a ton of sites to choose from and I couldn't just pick a few. So I thought I'd give you some links and you could check them out yourselves. So here are a few links that you can use:

This spring I have a few events coming up. Over the next few months we will have the 2nd application of fluoride varnish. This is only for those that had the varnish applied at the fall screening.
Hi! Welcome to 2016. This time of year in my office I see a lot of coughs, and colds, but I also see a lot of little guys and girls with bumped heads. When the weather gets cold and recess moves inside you've got lots and lots of energy to be expended in a smaller space than the playground. The kids bonk heads or bump their heads on the wall. Or even on a coat hook when hanging up their coats and jackets. This is also the time of year with ice and snow. And people of all ages have a tendency to slip and fall and occasionally bump their heads. While most of what I see in my office is minor and is fixed with an ice pack and a little love, occasionally head bumps are more serious. The CDC has come up with a new site called Head's Up. It's all about concussion information and what you need to look for. You can check it out here.
This is our second year working on Emergency buckets. Thank you so much for your contributions so far. We are still in need of several items to complete our buckets. Below is a list of the items we are missing. If you are able and willing and have any of the items listed below please send them with your child or drop them off in the office.

Please check your child’s shot records to see if they are up to date. You can find the list of required school immunizations here: http://health.mo.gov/living/wellness/immunizations/pdf/1516schoolrequirements.pdf
Also, as I go thru our information if it appears your child is behind on their immunizations I will notify you. All shot records need to be up to date by Oct 10th. If you have any questions you can call me at 256-2268, (my office hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-1:30) or you can call the Health Dept at 256-7078. Our annual Dental Screening will be held Oct 21st. Permission slips will be coming home any day now so be sure to get them back to me ASAP. During this screening, Dr. Alanna Temple from West Plains Dental Group, comes and does a visual exam of the students’ teeth and then a fluoride varnish will be applied. The varnish will also be re-applied in the spring. Fluoride varnish has been proven to be safe and effective in the prevention of tooth decay. It can even reverse some small areas of tooth decay. Although this in no way replaces a regular dental check-up, it is a great chance to get a heads up if something is going on. If you have any questions please feel free to give me a call at 256-2268, my office hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-1:30. Thanks!!
Last week I sent out an email notifying most of you that our students had been exposed to head lice. This is just a reminder to occasionally check your students' heads. You can find great information on how to treat head lice on any number of webpages. Here's one you can check out. http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/common/head_lice.html
Our school has a No Nit policy, as stated in the handbook. What that means is, there can be no visible lice eggs (nits) on a students head. Therefore when a student is sent home they must be checked by the nurse before they are allowed back in school. As I only work a couple of days a week you need to call the school and set up a time for me to meet you before your child can return to class. One of the most important things to remember, is lice are not harmful. They are extremely annoying but they won't hurt you or your student. Also, lice don't care who you are they are an equal opportunity pest. If you have any comments or questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks. |
