It’s that time of year again where I have to update our Student Information Systems with everyone’s immunizations. Please check your child’s shot records to see if they are up to date. You can find the list of required school immunizations here: http://health.mo.gov/living/wellness/immunizations/pdf/1516schoolrequirements.pdf
Also, as I go thru our information if it appears your child is behind on their immunizations I will notify you. All shot records need to be up to date by Oct 10th. If you have any questions you can call me at 256-2268, (my office hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-1:30) or you can call the Health Dept at 256-7078.

Our annual Dental Screening will be held Oct 21st. Permission slips will be coming home any day now so be sure to get them back to me ASAP. During this screening, Dr. Alanna Temple from West Plains Dental Group, comes and does a visual exam of the students’ teeth and then a fluoride varnish will be applied. The varnish will also be re-applied in the spring. Fluoride varnish has been proven to be safe and effective in the prevention of tooth decay. It can even reverse some small areas of tooth decay. Although this in no way replaces a regular dental check-up, it is a great chance to get a heads up if something is going on. If you have any questions please feel free to give me a call at 256-2268, my office hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-1:30. Thanks!!
Last week I sent out an email notifying most of you that our students had been exposed to head lice. This is just a reminder to occasionally check your students' heads. You can find great information on how to treat head lice on any number of webpages. Here's one you can check out. http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/common/head_lice.html
Our school has a No Nit policy, as stated in the handbook. What that means is, there can be no visible lice eggs (nits) on a students head. Therefore when a student is sent home they must be checked by the nurse before they are allowed back in school. As I only work a couple of days a week you need to call the school and set up a time for me to meet you before your child can return to class. One of the most important things to remember, is lice are not harmful. They are extremely annoying but they won't hurt you or your student. Also, lice don't care who you are they are an equal opportunity pest. If you have any comments or questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks. |
